Hearing test with animal voices
Playful determination of the hearing threshold
The mFAST is a playful method that fits into the world of children and was developed by
Prof. Frans Coninx.
The animal voice test uses four animal voices (cow, dog, cat and bird) with medium frequency
(0.5, 1, 2.5 and 5 kHz) and determines the audiometric hearing thresholds in an adaptive procedure.
The advantages of mFAST
- Suitable for very young children without sufficient language skills and with low memory capacity (from 3 to 4 years)
- Playful method to promote the attention and motivation of the children
- Adaptive method for rapid determination of individual hearing thresholds in the high and low frequency range (between 500 Hz and 5 kHz) using animal voices
- Simple operation
How the test works...
The test is called up and started by the audiometer via the Oldenburg measurement programs. The central own parameters are set and the child receives a monitor on which he or she can select the answers. The child is given the task of always pressing the animal whose voice it has heard. The adaptive procedure automatically changes the presentation level until the hearing threshold for the different middle frequencies can be estimated. A test run takes a few minutes.
