Open house day

On 21th Septmeber 2018 at 1 p.m., the internationally renowned scientists from the House of Hearing will open the doors of the research institutions and show all interested parties numerous phenomena and experiments relating to the topic of hearing.

Oldenburg has long been considered an international stronghold of hearing research, not only since the award of the German Future Prize to Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier and Prof. Dr. Volker Hohmann and the success of the Hearing4all excellence cluster. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Hörzentrum Oldenburg GmbH, this year's open house at the Haus des Hörens has the motto: "Always one ear ahead".

Learn and experience
A varied lecture program shows the different facets of Oldenburg hearing research. The Hearing4all excellence cluster provides exciting insights into the future of hearing aid technology. The hearing aid simulator gives normal hearers the chance to get an idea of hearing with hearing loss and hearing aid compensation. The worldwide unique Communication Acoustics Simulator (KAS) takes the visitors into different acoustic scenes. Guided tours through the listening garden provide a playful insight into complex listening processes. Who would like to know, how it is ordered around the own hearing, gets the possibility a hearing test to accomplish and to be advised. The Fraunhofer IDMT project group hearing, speech and audio technology demonstrates what computers can hear and automatically recognize - from coughs and cries for help to graffiti spray cans and defective components in industrial production. In addition, the Fraunhofer scientists developed a simple user interface for the smartphone, which can be used to make a personal hearing adjustment while making a phone call. This makes speech understanding much easier - for normal hearers as well as for people with hearing loss.
In order to introduce the very little ones to the exciting world of acoustics and hearing, child-friendly programme items are offered.
